My all time favourite band isSleep Token, an anonymous collective built around devotion to a higher being known as the god of Sleep. Hidden behind masks and ritualistic imagery, the band turns music into mythology. Their story unfolds through emotionally charged lyrics and atmosphere rather than direct explanation, making it easy for listeners to immerse themselves fully in the lore.
Although often labeled as a metal band, Sleep Token defies genre boundaries. Their sound blends elements of jazz, rap, Afro inspired rhythms, and classical music, creating a constantly evolving style that balances heaviness with vulnerability. This genre fluid approach mirrors their identity—unrestricted, expressive, and deeply emotional.
In 2023, the band’s anonymity was disrupted when the lead singer’s identity and home address were leaked online, sparking outrage within the fandom. Sleep Token has always emphasized that their work should be heard as it's written, separate from the bands identity.Instead of responding publicly, they addressed the violation through art in the songCaramel, where the lyric “Terrified to answer my own front door” captures the fear caused by being doxxed.
